Namdaemun reduced to ashes

Heartbreaking news from South Korea this week. Considered the country's most important national landmark, the 610 year old Namdaemun (Great South Gate) was destroyed Sunday by an arsonist, apparently disgruntled over a land compensation dispute. Imagine the Statue of Liberty slowly burning several hours until finally collapsing from the heat of a tremendous blaze, and you can understand why the people of Korea wept while they helplessly watched over 600 years of history vanish before their eyes. This is honestly one of the saddest videos I have ever had to sit through. You can see more video at CNN, and read the full story at Korea Times, NY Times, and just about any other news site out there.
